The Brunch Buzz – Pray Tell

Oh Brunch.  My most favorite thing about the weekend.  Next to sleeping in of course.  Today’s brunch adventure found me and a friend on College Street for a long overdue catch up which usually means a lot of bitching and dishing about boys.  And this meeting was no exception.

Pray Tell has been on my list for some time now mostly because of their famous plant wall.  Designed by the owners themselves and featuring plants from the folks at Crown Flora, this wall is truly a showstopper.  I probably see it circulate through my Instagram news feed at least a few times a week.  They’ve taken the greenery theme throughout the small space with delicate plants peeking out of the most unexpected crevices.  I’ve often thought about how I could possibly create a mini version of the plant wall in my condo.  Still working on it.

Okay on to the important stuff.  For our brunching pleasure, we ordered:

Avo Toast – smashed Avocado, water buffalo fresco, pickled chilies, apple, olive oil, lemon zest, potato hash and mixed greens.  (I added poached eggs on top)

Short Rib Benny – 5 spice pulled short rib, poached eggs, roasted garlic butter, tabasco hollandaise, savory Danish, potato hash & mixed greens

The food arrived quite promptly after we ordered and looked divine.  The overall verdict. Meh.  It was good but nothing to rave about.  I personally ordered the Avo Toast and although delicious sounding, the bread was quite difficult to cut and bite through which made the dish messier than it was supposed to be.  I tried a bit of the short rib benny and again, good but nothing that would make me want to come back again.

From what I can tell, it seems to me that Pray Tell is probably more known for their cocktails and snacks and so, just like in relationships, sometimes you have to give it a second chance.  Rumor is that they are opening a patio which I can only imagine will look like a hidden garden so I might have to wait until it’s ready for my next visit.
