In the blink of an eye I have totally and completely found myself in that stage of life. That stage where my friends are having babies. I can’t seem to get past a second date these days and some of my besties are pro-creating! Crazy. But crazy beautiful. I never was one of those girls that felt naturally maternal but I can’t help but feel a love for these kids that is unexplainable and to see my friends experience what I can only imagine is truly a miracle has been awe-inspiring.
So just in time for Mother’s Day I dedicate this post to them because the fact of the matter is that they have gone through some incredible and huge changes in their lives and will continue to do so as the years go by. No matter how different the stages in life you are with your friends its important to do things together and make an effort to be in each others lives. So here it is, my Top 5 things do with moms in the city:
Outdoor Markets – I have to imagine that as a new mom you are spending ALOT of time indoors. Outdoor markets are a great way to get some fresh air, get some exercise and even run a few errands! Some of my favourites to check out would have to be St. Lawrence market and Kensington Market. Not to mention all the amazing food there is to be had!
Parks – High Park – The nice part about going to a park is that you can do it with your mommy friends pre and post pregnancy. Going to a park is a little more relaxing then a market so it might be easier pre-pregnancy, maybe even organize a little picnic! Then on the flip side once baby is here, its a great place to take a walk, enjoy the scenery and once baby gets older they can join in on all the fun.
High Tea/Brunch – pregnant or not a girls gotta eat! Brunch or High Teas is perfect because its in the day, doesn’t take up a ton of time and is easy and relaxing. Its a great way to catch up with your mommy buddies, eat some great breakfast food or sit in a beautiful space like the Shangri-La lobby where you can go for a fabulous high-tea.
Museums – Another great option for once babies arrive. Museums like the AGO offer family programming like Family Sundays where you can bring kids for free and they can take part in art classes and activities. Kids stay busy and you and your mommy friend get time for some gossip.
The Spa – The reality of the situation is that expectant moms are going through so many changes with their bodies, many of which can be uncomfortable. Why not book a spa day where mommy can get a pre-natal massage and then go for the mani-pedi which gets really hard to find time for once baby arrives. Although watch those foot massages, rumor is they can induce labor!
No matter what you do, call them, message them and spend time with them. They may be moms now but they will always be your bestie.
Alright mommy friends – who’s up for a date? xo
